In this blog post, we will look at how to write and structure an academic plan through an example of an academic plan actually written by a student who dreams of becoming an architectural designer.
Reason for going on to higher education (reason for choosing a major)
I have been interested in architecture since I was a child. Thanks to my father, who is in the construction industry, I was able to become very familiar with the field of architecture. When my friends were reading comics or teen magazines, I grew up reading architecture-related books and magazines. At first, I was fascinated by the diversity and splendor of architecture, which has different styles in each country or city. But as time went on, my interest became more and more specific. I started to think about how I could create a more magnificent feeling and how I could create a space that would accommodate more light. And that’s how I naturally developed a dream of becoming an architecture student. I believe that my curiosity and passion for architecture, which I have been cultivating since childhood, will help me become a great architectural designer. And to realize that dream, I have applied to your school’s Department of Architectural Engineering. I am confident that my potential can be developed and realized successfully through your school’s systematic and professional education.
Academic plans and goals
If I go on to study at Kyungki University, I will faithfully follow the curriculum of Kyungki University and lay a solid foundation for achieving my dream of becoming an architectural designer. In my first year, I will focus on the basic studies to understand my major. I believe that solid foundations are necessary for independent learning. In my second and third years, I will work hard to obtain all the qualifications and skills necessary to become an expert. They will be required to obtain CAD/CAM certificates, which are architectural qualifications, and will be prepared to advance into various fields by improving their skills in AutoCAD, 2D drawing, 3D modeling, AUTOLISP programming, and Photoshop.
I think the field of architecture requires an international perspective more than any other field. This is because there are famous buildings with a long history all over the world, and each of them has its own meaning. I want to have the experience of seeing these historic buildings in person during my vacation. I will experience famous buildings in Korea and abroad and broaden my horizons. And in my fourth year, I will diligently prepare to become a member of society based on the knowledge and experience I have accumulated so far.
Plans after graduation
After graduating from university, I plan to focus on gaining practical experience. I will obtain a second-class architectural engineer’s license as soon as I graduate, which will shorten the time required to prepare for employment. I have been dreaming of becoming an architectural engineer since I was a child, and I want to jump into the field of architecture and gain various experiences. I will build my career with a sincere and fearless attitude. And my goal is to become the best expert in the field of architectural design based on my career.
I think the field of architecture has tended to be perceived as a man’s domain because of the somewhat rough work on site. However, I think a woman’s sensitivity fits well with the precision and sophistication required for architectural design. I want to make the most of my abilities to secure a place for myself as a female architect and set an example for women who dream of the same thing as me.
Introduction (Philosophy of Life, Values)
I think about how lucky it is to have someone to look up to in life. A person to look up to is someone you want to be like. I think that person helps you to go in the right direction whenever you are wavering. Thankfully, my father is someone I look up to. My father said that actions are more important than words. He always took the lead by taking active action and proved that what he said was right. My father’s attitude had a great influence on me. My tenacity and courage to do what I set my mind to do is similar to my father’s. I act rather than think, and I challenge rather than hesitate. I think this proactive attitude and passion are my greatest strengths.
