A collection of three-minute speeches by teachers at teacher seminars

A collection of three-minute speeches for teachers at teacher seminars! We introduce various examples and tips for effectively delivering messages in a short amount of time.

Theme – The world where left-handers live

There is a song called “Left-handed” in the song “Panic.”
Looking at the lyrics, it says, “Sometimes the world turns upside down,” “One or two kids like me mess things up,” “Everyone should raise their hands the same way,” and “Don’t swear at me with that look.”
A left-hander in a world where everyone is right-handed is like a mutant.
In fact, I have been a left-hander since I was a child.
There may be many left-handed people who were born left-handed, but it is rare to find a country like Korea where it is difficult for left-handers to live.
No matter how right-handed a person is, if they are left-handed, they need to be provided with various facilities and daily necessities that are suitable for them, but the reality is quite different.
Some of my friends were even beaten by their kindergarten teachers simply because they wrote with their left hand when they were in kindergarten.
Looking at sports right now, the dream of being a shortstop in baseball was shattered by unfair prejudice.
I remember giving up on baseball after being told that a left-hander was no good as a baseball player and that I should give up on my dream of being a shortstop.
That’s not all left-handers have to deal with.
It’s hard to cut with a pair of scissors, and it’s hard to cut with a knife.
This is because they are all only available for right-handed use.
A person who has to be scolded by adults every time they eat.
How many countries would say that a person who is left-handed by nature lacks home education?
Instead of just forcing right-handers, shouldn’t our society also pay attention to left-handers and start considering them right away, starting with schools, and providing them with essentials for living as left-handers?
How about understanding the tears of left-handers who are struggling to fit into the lifestyle of right-handers in the invisible world?
It is important to guide left-handers so that they do not have any inconveniences in their daily lives rather than forcing them to become right-handers.
Thank you for listening.

Topic – Let’s set a good example for students by having good language habits

Hello.
I’m ○○○, the instructor in charge of the teacher seminar.
I understand that there are teachers of various subjects here.
Our teachers teach classes in Korean, whether it is physics, mathematics, or politics.
I need to use proper Korean to communicate the content of the curriculum to the children.
These days, Koreans speak Korean in a way that suits their tastes.
Adolescents and certain groups sometimes use slang to strengthen their group solidarity. They also use abbreviations for words that are considered too long. I hear that students these days call their homeroom teachers “hometan.” Teachers are also human, so they can’t always speak correctly about language. Since I’m talking about it anyway, I want to speak in a fun and trendy way.
I’ve seen many teachers around me say that.
Hmmm, or cute.
Of course, that doesn’t mean it’s bad in everyday language.
Your job is special.
Being able to influence many people, and even lead this country, and have a great influence on the other party. Your job is a very mission-driven job.
It is hard to find a job that can affect so many people.
We must have the appropriate sense of responsibility.
Always knowing that someone is looking up to you. that they respect him. To look at something as an ideal.
Students copy everything about their teachers: their way of speaking, their behavior, and their unique outward appearance.
There is no standard for other things to be right. It is also difficult to change them.
But the language is different. Anyone can distinguish between proper and improper language.
I hope that students will develop good language habits that can serve as an example for others.
As we all know, language is the most basic measure of how people are evaluated.
Students trust teachers who have good language habits.
I hope you will remain a great teacher for your students.
Thank you.

Topic – Student depression

A recent nationwide survey of 31 mental health centers found that about 5% of middle and high school students showed signs of depression.
What are the causes of depression?
Of course, there is academic stress.
There is pressure to do well.
They go to cram school, are the eldest son and daughter, so they have high expectations from their parents, studying seems boring, and yet they have to study.
There may also be communication problems in human relationships.
Conflicts exist in any organization, regardless of the school.
There are probably some worries that teenagers can’t tell anyone about, including their parents or teachers.
Teenagers often feel anger and frustration when their thoughts are not the same as those of others.
However, they will feel frustrated if there are no adults around to listen to their worries.
If they cannot communicate with teachers, parents, or anyone, they will look for friends.
However, if there are things that can only be told to teachers, and things that can only be told to friends or parents, the story is a little different.
Ultimately, it is all due to the indifference of adults.
One student I recently met through counseling was a child who refused to go to school due to the aftereffects of school violence.
When I visited his home and earnestly persuaded him to come to school no matter what, he said, “You’re the first person to give me sincere advice.” He was in tears.
That little consideration was what led him back to school.
Children needed more attention and care than I had expected.
Children who say they want to die actually brighten up when they have a sincere conversation.
If adults take a little interest, the problem of youth will be greatly reduced.
It is time to establish a social network that connects psychological counseling and treatment at specialized institutions so that our children can grow up healthily.

Topic – I am against corporal punishment

I believe that anyone who argues that corporal punishment is necessary should at least answer the following two questions.
The first question is why do students in Europe, Japan, and the United States receive education without corporal punishment, but our youth think that they have to be whipped to listen?
Corporal punishment is illegal in many European countries and Japan.
In most states in the United States, corporal punishment is illegal, and in states where it is allowed, many require explicit parental consent for corporal punishment.
Some even require that corporal punishment be replaced by other means, such as suspension, if the student refuses to accept it.
Recently, many parents send their children to study abroad while enduring the life of a “geori” (a person who works abroad and stays in Korea), but I have never heard of a child attending school while living abroad.
There is no reason to say that our youth are particularly superior to children in other countries, but there is no reason to say that they are lagging behind either.
The level of those who have received education in Europe or Japan is not lower than that of those who have completed formal education in Korea.
Then I think about it.
Why should we beat children who are no worse than children in other countries, while we cannot provide them with a particularly outstanding education compared to other countries?
Even if we do not bring up the painful memory of teachers beating students during the Japanese colonial period, saying, “Korean bastards need to be beaten to learn,” we cannot support education that prioritizes corporal punishment because it starts with a lack of trust in students.
The second question is whether teaching by beating does not implicitly teach that it is okay to use violence for the right purpose.
Let’s assume that all teachers strictly exclude personal feelings when they use corporal punishment and use the cane for purely educational purposes.
Let’s say that the means of corporal punishment are appropriate and not beyond common sense, and that teachers only hit students in certain cases without personal deviation, so that students can predict what they will get if they do something.
Wouldn’t people who grow up in such an environment come to think that there are things in the world that deserve to be hit?
When you see a colleague being hit, you might not be able to help but think, “He deserves it because he did something like that.”
If you see a friend commit a wrongdoing, you might step up and say that you should correct him even if you have to hit him.
If he doesn’t come to his senses even after being hit, you might think that you should hit him even harder.
But “a guy who deserves to be hit can be hit. Is there any other wrong idea that should be corrected by beating it as much as one thinks?
And as one becomes immune to hawks, isn’t one’s sensitivity to violence dulled?
There is a book called The Emperor of Paris by William Golding that depicts the world of children who become insensitive to violence and, as a result, fall deeper and deeper into the world of violence.
After a nuclear war, a group of boys are stranded on a desert island.
At first, the children, who had formed a fairly democratic community by electing a representative and respecting those with a voice, gradually split into two groups and began to feud.
Ralph, who must send up a beacon to wait for help from the outside, and Jack, who is building an army-like organization while hunting wild boars, are the leaders of the two sides.
To light a beacon or roast a hunted wild boar, you must use the glasses written by a boy named Piggy.
The two groups, which seem to be able to use the lenses together, fall into a world of senseless violence.
Answering violence with violence only increases the violence many times over.
It adds even more darkness to the otherwise dark night sky.
The children’s violence, which began with breaking one of Piggy’s glasses, gradually spread to attacks with spears, and finally reached the stage of killing the other party without hesitation.
From Jack’s point of view, Ralph’s behavior of not being able to become a hunter, not being able to provide meat, and just giving orders and expecting obedience is wrong as a leader.
It must be corrected by beating him, even by violence.
It is not clear what the underlying cause is that leads children to become involved in violence like this.
The artist does not provide an answer as to whether it is the influence of adults who have fought a nuclear war or whether it is a problem of human nature in the first place.
However, it is clear that the ultimate ‘evil’ is violence.
There is a fundamental problem with corporal punishment in that it instills the idea that violence can be used to achieve a goal, both for the person who hits and the person who is hit.
The violence that is engraved in the body is never easily erased.
This is true even if it is a “love spanking” that is free of emotion.
I am deeply grateful to all the teachers who taught me during my school days, and I still have the same respect for them, but if you ask me if there was any of the many beatings I received growing up that led me on the right path, I would firmly say no.
And in fact, all of those beatings were emotional beatings without exception.
Wasn’t that the case for you?
How about saving children from violence?
Thank you for listening.

Topic – Education is hope

Let’s say that the children of the top class attend private schools, the upper class attend special purpose high schools, the middle class attend general high schools, and the children of the poor attend technical high schools or drop out of school. If that’s the case, who do you think helped that lawyer get to where he is now?
I don’t think it’s the parents who supported him generously or me who studied hard. This is probably because those who had outstanding talent and lofty ideals but gave up their studies early due to poverty were already left behind in the competition.
The competition has never been fair and is becoming more and more unfair. Still, the foolish people who believe that their achievements are solely due to their talent and hard work encourage competition and deepen unfairness. If you feel aggrieved, you should win the competition. That is the truth of the world.
I think the only way to escape from inherited poverty is through education. No matter how much we emphasize it, education is the most important thing. Parents and students prioritize private education over public education. In this reality, where students secretly do their homework at private institutes during school hours, we are disheartened. I think about what is the difference between a teacher’s lecture and an academy instructor’s lecture. In the end, students take academy lectures to get more questions right on the test we give. They focus on academy lectures rather than our lectures, which give the questions.
There is no doubt that the teachers’ teaching skills are excellent. I think that a system such as after-school classes or intensive academic support is needed for poor but eager students and students full of enthusiasm.
Students in the upper grades have more opportunities to receive education outside of school, but students in the lower grades have no choice but to attend school. I want to feel proud of their growth. Teachers are the arrows for students.
I think teachers are the most important people next to parents, who give the right direction and lead them to a higher place. If our teaching can help them escape from the poverty they have inherited, and if it can change a person’s life, what greater wish could there be?
Thank you for listening.

Topic – Self-realization

In the garden, a cicada is chirping as it passes through the middle of summer.
Soon, the cicadas will chirp.
When the cicadas chirp, summer will be over.
About 40 years ago, when the cicadas chirped, children who were about to start school would scramble to fill in the “Weather and Activities” section at the front of the “School Life” book.
“Did it rain the day before yesterday? What about a week ago?” They would ask their family members about the weather and write down the answers, so the child in the house next door would write “rain” and the child in the house behind them would write “sunny.”
After a month and a half of frantic play, I remember how strange and yet welcome my schoolbag felt when I returned to school.
But children these days are really pitiful.
Even elementary school children go to school and attend cram schools during the summer vacation to prepare for the national exam.
I think the summer vacation that those children remember later on will be very dull.
This may all be due to ‘capitalism’.
In the past, the children of the richest families in our school, such as the children of the soy sauce factory, were about the same as other children.
Since the capital accumulation was not yet large, the power of money was not so strong, so we could forget about the math book all through the vacation.
When I was in the first year of high school, I was amazed to hear my homeroom teacher say that some students study until after 10 p.m.
Most of my classmates had never stayed up past 9 p.m. before, so I was like, “What? 10 p.m.?”
But I still had fun because it was before the capital had been established yet.
As an individual, if you learn English conversation from the age of five or six, take supplementary classes during vacations, and go to an academy, you can only get a job and start a family and make a living if you have a solid “spec” in these days. There is no other way.
It is not the case that the past generation, who have spent their time in leisure, is accusing the current children and college students of being selfish or conservative.
Capital has multiplied the number of college students, who are potential workers, and has set the goal of education for human beings who faithfully work as the companies and markets tell them to.
Individuals who rebel against money, talk about public interests, work autonomously and creatively, or do eccentric things are not tolerated.
My daughter, who is in her third year of working for a large company, has lost the round, red cheeks she had when she started working, and her cheekbones are almost visible. The smile and liveliness that used to light up her face have disappeared.
I can’t quit my job because I think of my friends who are still unemployed or working in non-regular positions such as tutors at private academies or telemarketers.
Even if the monthly salary is relatively high, the work is not creative or autonomous, so there is no difference from being unemployed in terms of self-realization through labor.
Money is the ultimate goal, so the self-realization of working people is not a concern.
Still, the dialectical wheel of history continues to turn, so I think that capital will collapse due to its own contradictions.
Then, I think that a fun summer vacation, spent away from the math book, will once again welcome the children.
Thank you for listening.

Topic – Classrooms without corporal punishment

There are many opinions about corporal punishment.
What about you?
It is said that corporal punishment is experienced as vivid learning by the child who is punished, and it makes them understand that violence is justified in human relationships.
In fact, there is research that shows that people who were hit by their parents as teenagers are four times more likely to assault their spouse than those who were not, and that husbands who have experienced serious domestic violence are six times more likely to assault their wives.
The result of being exposed to a violent environment at school will not be any different.
To create a school without corporal punishment or classroom disruption, we must change the way we look at children’s problem behavior. Please take a moment to consider the plight of our children.
Our children are immersed in the swamp of entrance exam preparation from an early age, starting in kindergarten.
For children, the classroom is not a place for voluntary learning, but a place where they must repeat learning tasks that are of little interest under the teacher’s control.
When 30 to 40 energetic children are forced to study in a boring way, teachers have no choice but to spend 75% of class time punishing or enforcing rules.
In this environment, our children have to study the longest hours in the world.
How terrible is it that one in five teenagers has considered suicide?
Even so, we cannot hope that hyperactive, learning-disabled, or delinquent students will not appear.
Children’s problem behaviors such as deviance and rebellion are an effort to compensate for unmet needs and frustration, and a desperate attempt to draw attention and make people realize their problems.
However, a happy school without corporal punishment or classroom disruption is not a dream.
There are already many examples at home and abroad.
This was not only possible in alternative schools, but also in public schools such as Samwoo Elementary School and Jinan Information High School.
The documentary “Mind” aired by “Korean Broadcasting” in 2006 recorded the changes that occurred as teachers at Jinan Information High School respected the children as precious beings like angels and encouraged the children to see themselves as precious beings.
In just a few months, the children’s self-esteem increased, their attitude in class changed completely, and their academic performance even skyrocketed.
An American alternative school, Preschool, has also reported that hyperactive children’s hyperactivity disappeared after they were allowed to make their own rules and lose control.
These cases show that methods that respect children and boost their self-esteem are more effective in reducing children’s problem behavior and improving their academic achievement than methods such as corporal punishment.
Isn’t the quickest way to create a happy school to get rid of the inertial thinking that we cannot handle children without control and to respect and believe in children?
Thank you for listening.

Topic – We must strive to help children develop good language habits

These days, so-called ‘swear words battles’ are popular on the internet.
This is a game where players use profanity in chat or messenger.
The one who uses more provocative and severe insults to make the other person speechless wins.
Among smartphone applications, there are many “swear words apps” that record various swear words spoken by voice actors.
The biggest consumers of this “swear culture” are teenagers.
For them, swear words are a form of play and a part of everyday life.
There is a saying that if you think the word “X” is a swear word, you are an old-timer, and if you don’t, you are a teenager.
The reality of the language used by our youth, who are almost addicted to swearing, has been confirmed once again in a recent government survey.
Seven out of ten people swear every day.
There is no distinction between male and female students, and the situation is the same for elementary, middle, and high school students.
It is the common diagnosis of not only the teenagers themselves but also the teachers and parents that daily conversation is impossible without swearing.
Rather than blaming the children, the adults who allowed the situation to get to this point should reflect on their actions.
To put it right, we must first properly diagnose the cause.
As the results of this survey also show, the Internet is the reason why profanity has spread rapidly among the youth. As early as kindergarten or the lower grades of elementary school, children learn swear words while playing online games, and they use them without knowing what they mean in real life, which becomes a habit.
Peer culture, in which children are ostracized if they do not use the swear words that all their friends do, also contributes to the spread of swearing.
Therefore, language purification measures are needed for games and portal sites that are often used by teenagers.
It is necessary to teach the meaning of swear words at home and at school.
Fewer than three out of ten teenagers know what the swear words they use mean.
The ‘Polite Language Campaign’ held by Sindang Elementary School in Seoul is also worth a look.
At this school, children use honorifics, calling each other ‘○○nim’.
At first, they were awkward, but now they say they like it because they don’t swear and it makes them closer.
There are even cases where students transfer to another school and then come back because they can’t stand it.
It has become clear that it is up to adults to make our youth use polite language again.
Thank you for listening.
